Does the Internet Archive have a formal preservation policy? I'm wondering to what extent I could rely on IA to preserve the bitstream and/or to transcode the video file to future formats and/or to offer an emulation environment on future computing platforms for files uploaded today. It seems like a fundamental question of how IA works, but I couldn't find an answer in the FAQs or past forum postings.

Thanks, Diana. I guess the librarian in me was hoping for something a little more concrete. Digital preservation is an activity that has to be taken on faith (given our current understanding of what the phrase "long term digital preservation" actually means).

Is anyone at IA looking to one of the digital preservation checklists -- /a la/ TRAC:CC or DRAMBORA (http://dltj.org/article/trac-and-drambora/)? The checklists speak to not only the technical preservation, but also the administrative and policy frameworks for preservation.
